vehicle" into officers at a vehicle access point to the Capitol complex in
Washington
2. The suspect then got out of the vehicle holding a
knife and ran towards officers
3. One officer has died of their injuries, another is
hurt. The suspect died after being shot by police
4. Capitol police say the incident "does not appear to
be terrorism-related"
5. It happened at the North Barricade vehicle access
point on Constitution Avenue
6. The US Capitol complex has been locked down
7. In January a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol in
protest at the result of the 2020 presidential election
1. 'Heartbroken': President Biden reacts
President
Joe Biden has released a statement about today's attack, saying he and First
Lady Jill Biden were "heartbroken to learn of the violent attack".
He
offered his "heartfelt condolences to Officer Evans’ family, and everyone
grieving his loss".
He
added that he had ordered flags at the White House to lowered to half mast.
Acknowledging
that it had been "a difficult time" for those working in and around
the Capitol, he expressed "the nation’s gratitude" to the Capitol
police force and first responders.
