| On the occasion of the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, a group of Foreign Ministers and Deputy Foreign Ministers from countries in various world regions gathered on 22 September 2026 in New York to discuss joint approaches to support the incoming UN Secretary-General in taking bold actions for UN reform. |

| The event was co-hosted by Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Singapore’s Foreign Minister the Honorable Vivian Balakrishnan and Ghana’s Foreign Minister the Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Further participants included the Foreign Ministers from Finland, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kenya and Mexico, the Assistant Minister from Egypt and high-level participants from Brazil and France. |

| The participants of the roundtable expressed their commitment to making the UN stronger, more efficient and more capable of fulfilling the purposes enshrined in the UN Charter. They agreed that in a period of global upheaval a renewed and refocused UN is key to stabilizing the international order. |

| Led by the guiding question of what kind of UN the international community will need in 5 years’ time, the Ministers underlined their determination to support the new UN leadership in reinvigorating the spirit of cooperation between Member States and in enabling multilateral solutions to pressing issues of our time. |
|
| The roundtable discussion made clear that structural reforms on all levels and in all areas of work must continue to make the system more efficient and effective, accountable and impactful while upholding the balance between the pillars of the UN. Alliances between Member States from various regions and backgrounds will be indispensable to uphold the necessary momentum. |

| Facing the choice between ambitious member-state-led reform and externally imposed change brought about by conflict, rivalry and crises, the Minister embraced the collective answer of resolute reform. They concurred that a continuation of the conversation among Permanent Representatives of the participating countries was desirable with a perspective to including further interested partners. |
