Greece and India Cement Strategic Ties at Delhi AI Summit

On the sidelines of the “AI Impact Summit” held at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre on Thursday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, to reaffirm a burgeoning strategic partnership that positions Greece as India’s primary logistical and economic anchor in the European Union.
A new chapter in cooperation between Greece and India
The meeting follows a series of high-level exchanges over the last two years, signaling a shift toward a deep-rooted alliance. According to official government statements, the two leaders focused on:
Logistics & Infrastructure: Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s ambition to serve as India’s “Gateway to Europe” via its strategic ports and the IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor).
Defense & Maritime: Plans were discussed to deepen cooperation in shipbuilding, ship repair, and defense technology.
Trade: Discussions centered on the EU-India Trade Agreement, with Mitsotakis highlighting the potential for Greek high-quality agrifood exports—specifically olive oil and kiwis—to enter the massive Indian market.
Mitsotakis: AI is a “civilizational shift”

Later, addressing the AI Impact Summit, Prime Minister Mitsotakis characterized the rise of Artificial Intelligence as a “civilizational shift” rather than just a technological one. He urged the international community to ensure that the “AI Dividend” is shared broadly rather than concentrated among a few tech giants.
The Prime Minister outlined three strategic pillars for the future of AI:
1. Digital Inclusion over Concentration
“AI cannot be a story of digital concentration; it must be a story of digital inclusion,” Mitsotakis stated. He emphasized that the benefits of AI must be felt tangibly by the “farmer, the nurse, and the teacher,” and warned that governments must address labor displacement and reskilling immediately.
2. Modernizing the State & Protecting Minors
Mitsotakis issued a stark warning regarding “digital addiction” and online harm, particularly for younger generations.
“Protecting minors is a matter of intergenerational solidarity,” he noted, revealing that Greece will soon announce a ban on social media access for minors and adolescents.
He also called for a total overhaul of public procurement, arguing that industrial-era bureaucracy is unsuitable for the AI age.
3. Trusted Partnerships and Geopolitics
Finally, the Prime Minister spoke on the geopolitical nature of the AI “stack”—from semiconductors to cloud infrastructure. He argued against the weaponization of technology or the fragmentation of AI into rigid, competing blocs.
A confluence of ancient wisdom
Closing his speech, Mitsotakis offered a poetic reflection on the shared heritage of Greece and India. He suggested that the path forward lies in the fusion of modern technology with “Ancestral Intelligence”—drawing on the wisdom found in both ancient Sanskrit texts and Greek philosophy to guide the ethical development of a prosperous future.
