Hello! Rebecca Morin here. Have you been following Trump’s sweeping tax and policy bill? I would love to hear your thoughts on it! Let me know them here.

Trump’s mega bill clears Senate

President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax, spending and policy bill is one step closer to hitting his desk. Senate Republicans narrowly approved the president’s mega bill, which he’s dubbed as “one big, beautiful bill.” The measure passed with 50 votes after three Republicans defected, requiring Vice President JD Vance to break the tie in a dramatic flourish and send the bill back to the House for final approval. The bill includes a variety of provisions from federal food aid reform to limits on tip and overtime taxes. But it’s not over the finish line. Now the GOP-led House, which barely passed a prior version of the legislation back in May, must reconcile with the Senate on any differences between their bills before both must vote on it again. Follow the latest updates.

What’s in the bill: The bill has many of Trump’s campaign promises, such as cutting taxes on tips and overtime, expanding immigration enforcement efforts and making his 2017 tax reductions permanent. The legislation also deeply cuts the Medicaid health insurance program and reduces the estate tax while adding a projected $3.3 trillion to the nation's debt over a decade, which has prompted bipartisan opposition to the measure. What you need to know about the bill.

Trump vs. Musk (again)

Their bromance is once again on the rocks. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s feud reignited after the billionaire tech entrepreneur's latest wave of criticism of Trump's tax and budget bill. Trump told reporters on Tuesday that “we'll have to take a look," when asked whether he will deport Musk. Musk on Monday warned he would boost primary challenges to defeat Republican lawmakers who vote for Trump’s sweeping legislation. The new war of words erupted just two weeks after Musk took steps to repair his strained relationship with Trump ‒ including personally apologizing for insults he made as he exited the Trump administration in June. What Trump said about Musk.

Trump visits ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

It’s the latest symbol in President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. The president on Tuesday flew to Florida on Tuesday to visit a new migrant detention facility nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida's Everglades. The facility will house, process and deport illegal immigrants, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press conference on Monday. The visit to the controversial detention center comes as concerns continue to spike about the capacity at state and national detention centers as the administration vows to increase the pace of immigrant apprehensions and removal from the United States. Follow the latest updates from Trump’s visit.
