Excellency Viktor Orban
Prime Minister and Chair Person of the Fidesz Party Of The Hungarian Republic
His Excellency,
Re: A message of thanks and appreciation from (FEYM group of some Turkish intellectuals.)
We, the members of a Turkish group “FEYM,” concerned with misrepresentation of the historical record surrounding the 1915 Turkish-Armenian events in Ottoman Anatolia, wish to express you and the members of your party our sincere thanks and appreciation for rejecting the “genocide” recognition bill in the Foreign Relations Committee, hence the Hungarian Parliament, early last month.
By evaluating existing international and irrefutable historical documentations, we are sure thate that the so-called “Armenian genocide” allegations are baseless and not supported by any internationally valid document and not even neutral eye witness. We concur with you that the Armenian dispute should be argued by historians and legal experts, and judged in a historical and legal context.
Recent international judicial decisions, such as the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and France’s Constitutional Court, render “Armenian genocide” recognition by any parliamentary body legally unsustainable. Only specially authorized courts have such jurisdiction. Aware of the weakness of its position, the Armenian side has to date refrained from taking its case to an international tribunal. While labeling their opponents “denialists,” scholars on the Armenian side also avoid meaningful meetings and open discussion and dialog with their counterparts on the Turkish side.
We add, parenthetically, that while His Holiness Pope Francis has recognized “Armenian genocide,” when he visited Bosnia in June 2015 he deliberately refused –ignoring pleas from the Bosnian academics- to use the term “genocide” in denouncing the Srebrenica killings. Notwithstanding that two UN courts, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), had established that the Srebrenica killings were bona fide genocide. This was a clear case of bias on the part of the Pope.
We also note with joy and gratitude that our Hungarian brothers and sisters, to whom we feel particularly close for having shared a common history and culture –including to some extent language- for centuries, have decided to take a principled position on the Armenian issue, savoring impartiality and justice, and defying political pressure from the all-too-strong Armenian lobby and its supporters
For your perusal, please find " enclosed some excerpts from original international documents,” which are self-explanatory and irrefutable.
