Secretary Blinken’s Meeting with Japanese Prime Minister KishidaReadout July 29, 2024 The below is attributable to Spokesperson Matthew Miller: Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, III met with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio today in Tokyo. They celebrated the success of the Security 2+2 and affirmed their commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Japan Alliance. The Secretaries and Prime Minister discussed significant progress on defense commitments made during the Prime Minister’s official visit to Washington, D.C. in April and committed to continue advancing the U.S.-Japan Alliance as the cornerstone of security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Secretary Blinken expressed deep concern about the DPRK’s growing military cooperation with Russia and its unlawful nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the South China Sea. |
