Joint press statement by the German and French Foreign Ministers on the occasion of Foreign Minister Wadephul’s introductory visit to Paris

logoToday, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the Franco-German engine. This unique partnership, rooted in history and focused on the future, remains the backbone of our joint ambition for a united, strong, and forward-looking Europe.

Together, we are driving efforts to make the European Union more sovereign and resilient. Strengthening the ability to act autonomously will be a common priority, with a focus on reinforcing our common defense. We believe in a EU that can act, protect its citizens, defend its democratic values, and speak with a clear voice on the global stage.

We stand united in our enduring support for Ukraine against Russian aggression. We are also working with our Allies and partners all around the world, to tackle crises in the Middle East and Africa. Only through close cooperation can we promote stability, peace, and a global order grounded in international law and human rights.

On May 9th, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the birth of Europe, marked by Robert Schuman’s declaration – a symbol of Franco-German reconciliation. We draw strength from his vision: we progress through concrete steps and shared solidarity. In the weeks to come, we will take joint initiatives to translate his vision into new actions.
