On January 20, President Donald Trump began his second term as the 47th President of the United States.

In his inaugural address, he promised a "golden age of America," focusing on national sovereignty, security, economic growth, energy independence, and modernized infrastructure to bolster industries and strengthen supply chains.

President Trump expressed his vision of making America "greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before." This period, he stated, would serve as a significant chapter in the nation's history.

This week, the Honorable Marco Rubio was unanimously confirmed as the 72nd Secretary of State. He is the first Hispanic American to hold the position. Joined by his wife, Jeanette, and their four children, the new secretary outlined the Trump Administration’s America First foreign policy.

In a message to staff, Secretary Rubio reiterated his guiding principles from his testimony. “President Trump has entrusted us with a clear mandate for sweeping change in our foreign policy. Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must be justified with the answer to three simple questions: Does it make America safer? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?”

These three questions will inform foreign policy decisions over the next term.

Secretary Rubio Meets with Indo-Pacific Leaders

Secretary Rubio convenes a meeting for the foreign ministers of Australia, India, and Japan at the State Department.

Secretary Rubio emphasized the enduring importance of Indo-Pacific cooperation, hosting Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on his first full day in office.

The four nations’ top diplomats released a statement, highlighting “our conviction that international law, economic opportunity, peace, stability, and security in all domains including the maritime domain underpin the development and prosperity of the peoples of the Indo-Pacific.”
