ABD Dışişleri Bakanlığı'nda geçen hafta ( 5 - 11 Eylul 2025)

The Week at State

September 5 – September 11

This week, the Trump Administration called for flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of Charlie Kirk. Secretary Rubio said, “Charlie Kirk's commitment to America's future generations and sense of patriotism will resonate for decades to come.”

We also remembered those who died in the September 11 attacks

Here’s what happened at State this week:

Protecting U.S. Nationals from Wrongful Detention

President Trump has signed an Executive Order that imposes new consequences on those who wrongfully detain Americans abroad. Actors designated as State Sponsors of Wrongful Detention may face penalties including economic sanctions, visa restrictions, foreign assistance restrictions, and travel restrictions for U.S. passport holders.

Shortly after the Executive Order was signed, Secretary Rubio welcomed news that Elizabeth Tsurkov, a Princeton academic and sister of a U.S. citizen, had been freed with the cooperation of Iraqi authorities. Tsurkov spent two and a half years in captivity.

Following floods that have affected over 300,000 people in Pakistan, the U.S. government is providing urgent aid. The operation was executed by the U.S. Air Force within 72 hours. It highlighted the efficiency of America First foreign assistance, while bolstering bilateral ties with an important regional actor.

U.S. Embassy Islamabad reported that Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker welcomed the first shipment of supplies at Nur Khan Air Base. Upon arrival, she “extended her deepest condolences to the people of Pakistan, whose lives have been uprooted by the widespread, catastrophic flooding.”

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau hosted a special ceremony in front of State Department headquarters in Washington to commemorate the solemn anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Secretary Rubio also marked the day with a reflection on how 9/11 shaped America and the world. U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide remembered the victims of the attacks with their own ceremonies.

We honor the families who endured loss, the heroes who answered the call, and the service members who continue to protect our freedom.
