JUST IN: The face-off is set. US President Donald Trump announced Friday that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska. It’s the first meeting between US and Russian heads of state since before Russian forces launched their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Also on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Russia has floated a cease-fire proposal that would allow for significant territorial concessions in eastern Ukraine to Russia, as well as US assistance toward international recognition of those areas as Russian.
