Neighborhood and brotherhood: Türkiye-Iran-Pakistan

It is imperative that the international community, including leading peace-loving actors such as Türkiye and Pakistan, approach the United States urgently. If possible, contact President Donald Trump directly to persuade him to cause a cease-fire first and foremost at this crucial juncture, which could ultimately pave the way to end the ongoing war with an agreement that will ensure the existence of Iran intact and provide guarantees for all states in the region.
Iran is of paramount importance to Türkiye in many respects. Iran is a historical immediate neighbor of Türkiye. The border established by the Treaty of Kasr-ı Şirin in 1639 during the reign of Murad IV largely forms the basis of the current Türkiye-Iran border. One of the significant facts in Türkiye’s foreign relations is that the Türkiye-Iran border has remained unchanged for nearly four centuries, symbolizing stable peace.
Therefore, bearing in mind that maintaining friendly and good-neighbourly stable relations with Iran is one of the crucial aspects of our foreign policy, Türkiye must make representations to President Trump in support of Iran that are more visible and perceptible by Iran, regardless of our general opinion on the Iranian regime.
This necessity has increased even more today in the face of the aggressive policies and conduct amounting to genocidal acts in the field that Israel, under Netanyahu's administration, audaciously pursues in the region, relying on the backing of the US and its own nuclear weapons capabilities.
Iran must remain intact in the region. This is in the best interest not only of the region but of the world. We have clearly seen this reality in recent developments.
Throughout my professional life, during my assignments in various countries and international platforms, I have witnessed that Pakistan, a true friend and brother to Türkiye, is a capable and effective actor, especially in multilateral diplomacy.
Pakistan has always stood in solidarity with Türkiye in multilateral forums and has defended our positions in line with our views on issues directly concerning Türkiye, especially in forums where Türkiye is not a member (e.g., the Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Conference).
Early this morning, at a time when the world held its breath, H. E. Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan announced to the international community that the US and Iran have agreed on a ceasefire that will take effect immediately everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions.
I congratulate Pakistan, the true friend and brother of Türkiye, for this important diplomatic success.
