WARSAW – Donald Tusk's government won a confidence vote on Wednesday, averting early elections and preserving his pro-EU alliance.
The vote was expected to pass as the four-party centrist coalition holds 242 seats in the 460-member lower house. A total of 243 MPs voted in favour and 210 against. The New Left and the prime minister's Civic Platform backed him unconditionally, while the two remaining coalition parties – liberal Poland 2050 and the agrarian Polish People’s Party – pushed for symbolic concessions to extract leverage without endangering the coalition’s stability.
