Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) and other hard-right Republicans for months have threatened to go after the speakership of Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) if he relied on Democratic votes to pass any funding legislation, which happened Saturday after McCarthy could not get a majority of Republicans to support conservative proposals.
