The visit follows the announcement that the John Templeton Foundation will award the prestigious 2025 Templeton Prize to His All-Holiness for “his pioneering efforts to bridge scientific and spiritual understanding of humanity’s relationship with the natural world, bringing together people of diverse religious traditions in common cause to protect creation.”

The next day, on Saturday, September 20, which marks World Coastal Cleanup Day, Patriarch Bartholomew will be honored as the “Green Patriarch” during a special environmental event at the Stony Brook University Marine Station in Southampton. He will then lead the annual Assembly of Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne in the US at the Dormition of the Theotokos Church in Southampton. A Great Vespers service and formal dinner will follow.
The Patriarch will preside over a Patriarchal Divine Liturgy alongside Archbishop Elpidophoros and members of the Eparchial Synod that Sunday. A reception will follow immediately after the service, and he will return to New York the next day to attend a reception in his honor. This will be hosted by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation and the National Council of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. In the afternoon, he will deliver a keynote address at the annual Concordia Summit, attended by prominent leaders from the business, political, and philanthropic communities. An official dinner hosted by the Libra Group family will follow.
On Tuesday, September 23 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Patriarch will meet with hierarchs, clergy, monastics, and presvyteres of the Archdiocese, followed by a luncheon hosted by Archbishop Elpidophoros in honor of the Templeton Foundation Board of Trustees. Later that day, he will visit Fordham University and its Orthodox Christian Studies Center. A Doxology will be held at St. George Church in New York City on Wednesday, September 24. There, the Patriarch will bless the faithful with ancestral roots in Constantinople, Imbros, and Tenedos, and he will formally receive the Templeton Prize in a private ceremony in New York that evening.
The official visit will conclude on Thursday, September 25, with a farewell luncheon hosted by Archbishop Elpidophoros in honor of Rabbi Arthur Schneier, founder of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation. The event, sponsored by Calamos Investments, will be held at Rockefeller Center.
