Lavrov: 'After Trump plan, proceed with creation of a Palestinian state'

A long-term solution to the conflict 'is only possible if the UN decisions on the creation of a Palestinian state are implemented', Lavrov insisted. Russia hopes that Israel will recognise the need to find a balance of interests, 'rather than setting itself a goal that would mean eliminating any threat to its existence, regardless of what its neighbours think and their arguments'. For many years Israel has not taken the importance of the issue of the creation of a Palestinian state seriously: 'It is precisely the unresolved issue of a Palestinian state that is the most significant factor fuelling the persistence and strengthening of extremism in the Arab world'. The issue of the creation of a Palestinian state must be resolved, among other things, through compromise: 'Compromises are inevitable in any conflict. Agreements to end the bloodshed are a compromise, and each
